Sufi Irshad Abbas were born on 27th of Jamadulsani, on the urs of Sufi Fazalullah Shah alais Shah Qalander Data Pir. Therefore Sufi Maqdoum Ali Akbar Shah named them 'Qalander Baksh'. They were born premature therefore were very weak. Hazrat Sufi Abdul Sattar Shah Sani their father were not present at dargah that day , when they returned, gave a second name Shahabudin alais Irshad Abbas.
They were born premature . Therefore were very weak , could not talk until age of three even then their speech was impaired until the age of 13, and did not start to walk until age of 6. Many doctors were consulted. In Hyderabad there was a German doctor, Sufi Abdul Sattar took their son to him for treatment. The doctor said, "this child is not going to improve, he will not be able to take care of family , he will not be able to feed, he will not be able to have kids". This report was very heartbreaking to Sufi Abdul Sattar . They consulted Hakim Ajmal Khan and Sayed Muharam Kamil Shah Sayedpuri. Sufi Irshad Abbas had reached age of 10 years. Hakim Sahib said "Allah is almighty , everything will be better and this child will improve". The treatment started , even Sufi Makhdoum Ali Akhbar Shah were talented hakim , they also did the treatment. At the age of 12 they were walking, and took admission in primary school at dargah at the age of 13. Tutor was Bachumal from Kanghora district Digri. He was dargah mureed but a strict Hindu. He was very tough, had no tolerance and would physically abuse at small mistakes. This tutor is now residing in India and living in hardship. There was a servant namely Gulam Hussein Wasan, once he saw tutor beating up on Sufi Irshad Abbas and complained to Sufi Abdul Sattar and urged them to give this duty to him. This servant was very humorous , would tell jokes and made Sufi Irshad Abbas laugh. Sufi Irshad Abbas were very talented in art and writing kalaams. They colored their father's picture and many other which are posted on this website. A very Interesting incident was told by an elderly relative. During the war of 1971 December between Pakistan and India , many families took refuge at dargah Sharif. Her family was also one of them. One day she enters the room where Sahib Karim Sufi Irshad Abbas were trying to paint the windows black for the 'blackout' ordinance during war. The paint was so thin that it was running down to floor. She quoted "I was thinking what do 'faqeers' know about paint and brushes". Sahib Karim called her ,though she had not uttered a word, and showed her their artwork. She felt ashamed and regretful at her thoughts.
Sahib Karim have written many beautiful kalaams, some of which have been sung by Shafi of Umerkot.
